TECHNIACAL MANAGEMENT OF AN ORGANIZATION

By Mr. Gong Fei

Mr. GONG Fei, is a graduate in the engineering field from Wuhan¡¯s Technology & Science University in 1999; he is currently employed by a French mechanical manufacturing company as the Deputy General Manager.

It has been said that a company is just like a cart with two wheels.  One wheel is technology; the other is marketing.  Nowadays, many companies are run by technology, which could help increase the competencies and effectiveness of these companies.

Technical management is ¡°tough¡±.  A Technical Manager has to deal with a lot of daily, but important, chores, such as, dividing the daily workload, communication with the operators as well as the Management, etc.  Therefore, first of all, the Manager must have some very clear thinking of the job.  Questions such as, what is the job?  What are the goals?  Who will achieve these goals?  These questions must be answered.  After having achieved this framework, the Manager needs to supervise the implementation of these strategies and monitor the progress of the work .

A Technical Manager must learn how to manage the technical resources, and to ensure that such resources can be utilized in the best cost-effective manner.  In this process, the sense of competition is also very strong and beneficial.  One of the most important tasks of the Technical Manager is to provide, or create, the opportunities for the intellectual achievements.

I have been working in the position of Technical Management for several years.  In my experience, the key of doing the job well is communication.  I always pay a lot attention to create a good working environment for my team such that they are in a position to communicate well and effectively.

If the leadership is not suitable, then the result is that the goals, or targets, cannot be achieved; no matter how smart the team members are.  An even worse situation is that the team may collapse.  There must be a ¡°strategic mind¡± to lead the talents to achieve the goals that the team has been set out to do.  The leader needs to know the team very well, and keeps the working environment comfortable, and transparent

A team leader also needs to make the members feel that they are valuable and each of them is a member of this big ¡°family¡±.  In my opinion, it is very important to respect and provide each member of the team by providing a sense of space of career development.

In summary, one must let the technical group become powerful, and a self-learning group. And if we can really do that, we believe that this technical group will be a healthy, open, and effective group that would please the colleagues and the Management. And the society, the company and the employees will all benefit from this venture. Finally, we can find a right reason for its existence!
